How to cook steam from Montenegro at home

The national cuisine of Montenegro is simple but hearty dishes. For their preparation, meat products, cheese and milk are used. Popara is traditionally made for breakfast; in Montenegro, this is a popular way to recuperate, not inferior to tsitsvar.

Popara or Popara is a traditional breakfast or peasants in Montenegro. The composition includes simple products – stale black bread, butter, milk and young cheese. It turns out a thick soup, which is served cold. Popara in Montenegro is in any cafe and restaurant. It is suitable for vegetarians and people who do not like meat.

For cooking, you need the following ingredients:

  • Black bread. Dried, no moisture.
  • Milk is fresh, can be pasteurized.
  • Butter rustic, for taste.
  • Young cheese. Soft, soluble in water, you can not use a cheese product.

Popar is prepared in Montenegro in pots, where the resulting mixture is stirred and infused. In the national cuisine, it is not customary to make a lot of food, portions are designed for a certain number of people.

Recipe for Montenegrin steam

First prepare black bread. It should have a minimum of moisture, it can be dried in the oven or microwave. Cut into cubes, spread evenly on a baking sheet. In Bar, they use open ovens for this or dry them in the sun with a strong wind. A crust forms, if there is mold on the pieces, they must be thrown away.

Popar recipe in Montenegro:

  • I pour stale bread into the pan.
  • Pour milk and wait 10-15 minutes until the base softens.
  • Add butter, mix slowly.
  • Young cheese is rubbed on a grater, poured gradually, mixing it with the main dish.
  • Salt and pepper to taste, but not too much.

Then steam is infused for 40-45 minutes. The traditional dishes of Montenegro are dominated by a mild taste, spicy seasoning is not added. You can do it yourself. Restaurants and cafes ask the waiter to bring additional spices.

Serving

Popara in Montenegro is served in deep round or oval plates. Before that, it is cooled, it tastes like okroshka, but without a sour taste. It is suitable for curdled milk or a similar dairy product. Soup satisfies hunger well, it can be eaten in hot weather.

Additional components for serving:

  • fresh white bread, cut into small pieces;
  • greens – onions, green garlic;
  • vegetable salad;
  • sauces.

You can try a real steam in Montenegro in the tourist areas of Budva or Bar. This dish is served during sightseeing trips.
