Coat of arms of the United Arab Emirates (arab. شعار الإمارات العربية المتحدة ) was established in 1973. Changes to the symbol were introduced in 2008. It has common features with similar images of other Arab countries, but there are differences. The official coat of arms of the UAE can be found on documents, panels, buildings.
Symbolism
In the central part there is a golden falcon – this is the Hawk of Quraysh . The disk next to it symbolizes the commonwealth of the seven emirates. The coat of arms of the UAE has the official flag of the country. “The coat of arms should have prestige,” said Minister of Ministerial Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah al- Gergawi . He spoke at a meeting of the Federal National Council (FNC), during which the new rule was discussed and adopted for final approval. “The main goal is to implement [the law] because criminals have not been prosecuted in the past,” Mr. Al Gergawi said .
“Only the president and state institutions can use the coat of arms. This law must ensure that no one else enforces it.” The bill was first presented to the FNC on November 2. It now has to be approved by Sheikh Khalifa , the President of the UAE.
Offenders can pay up to 100,000 dirhams ($27,000) and receive up to one year in prison. Legislation prohibits the illegal use of the UAE emblem for any commercial purposes such as advertising, signage in shops, part of a company logo and commercial activities.
Al- Gergawi said the law would be monitored by the Interior Ministry. He expressed concern about the overuse of the emblem. They were afraid that people might use reproductions to forge documents, he said. In March last year, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the current coat of arms, which was subsequently approved by Sheikh Khalifa.
